Flames nodded, mostly just so she could move. She wanted to get comfortable in this body as soon as possible and that meant practice. On the bright side, after the first step, she had stopped almost tipping over. This body had more muscle than she was used to. She held up the lantern. This body should know exactly how to get out, but for some reason the memories were filtering in very slowly. However, she almost felt like part of her brain was asleep. She could think fine herself, and yet it felt like everything around the bit that was her in her head was still dozing off. How annoying.
She addressed Wild without looking back. "Wherever we can find an--" Flames stopped. The lantern had revealed a dark hole on the side of the tunnel. "Exit." she finished.
It couldn't have been that far from where she had shot the human and yet she hadn’t noticed it at all. She doubted she ever would have, without having a lantern and looking for it. It looked promising—hidden and with a slightly dipping ceiling. But they had been so close to it.Jeb had always been so tricky. I should have known it would be here, in the last place we’d ever look.
Flames paused. That was odd. She had never had the memories come back so vividly at such random moments. This brain was so…active. She stepped toward the hole. So this was an exit? That was so—Crazy of him. Of course, it had really been his craziness that had saved us all in the first place. If he hadn’t been watching out for things that didn’t exist, he never would have seen what did. I would have smiled ruefully if I could move my mouth. I couldn’t reach it though. So I just would stay here, it the back of my brain, thinking to myself while Wanda focused on other things.
Right. Crazy. Not the word she would have chosen, but fitting none the less. Flames looked back at Wild. "This is it," she told him, no doubt in her voice. She turned to go in.
