Jamie smiled and then went back to pouting. It was working and he didnt know if it even would. He took Mel's hand and held it in a begging motion."Dont be mad at me. I wuz you."he said in a babby voice. He was goo at sweet talking her. He looked into her eyes and smiled, knowing he had got her.

Mel smiled. ”You also look completely ridiculous.” She wrapped her arm around him to hug him. ”I’m not mad at you. Now stop looking like a starving orphan child.” Mel’s heart gave a twinge as she realized how close that was to actually being what he was. No one really had as much food as they’d like except after a raid, their parents might well have been dead, and Jamie was one of the youngest in the caves. Mel pulled back and held his shoulders at arm’s length for a moment, studying his face. He looked alright. She took her granola bar off the counter where she had set it and took another bite. ”So. Anything interesting happen at school?”notes: pst...you should visit us in the c-box

Jamie frowned and bowed his head again. "I got in trouble again from Sharon. I didnt even do anything. I went up and asked her for help and she said go ask a freidn. So I went back and asked my friend and she got on me for talking." he said in a rush and in one breathe. He felt mad that Sharon had doen that. He ahd been given soap duties and his hands still stung from the it. He rubbed them together to get the stinging to stop but it didnt work.

Mel raised an eyebrow. He got in trouble from Sharon a lot lately. It almost made Mel wonder if that was really because he did awful things or if Sharon just had it out for him. She wouldn't, of course, mention this to Jamie though, or he would start thinking she was okay with it. "Tell me," Mel said. "Did Sharon happen to be talking as well when you asked?"

Jamie frowned and remembered the day. He was sitting at his desk and Sharon at hers. She was grading papers and he turned to his friend and asked. She got up and told him to stop what he was doing and get going on the soap. He told Mel what had happened and frowned. What had he been doing wrong again. He looked down at his hands again and rubbed them together, hoping to rub off the stinging.
He looked up at Mel and said, "So what did I do wrong? I dont get it." He looked to the dust on the table, not being able to stare at one thing for more than 10 seconds.

Mel sighed. "I wasn't there, so I can't say for sure. She probably wanted everyone to be quiet while they worked, though." Mel shrugged. Noticing his hands, she grabbed each of his wrists and turned them up so she could see his palms. A corner of her mouth twitched. "I take it you got soap duty."

Jamie ssmiled half heartedly. He took his hands away and hid them in his pockets. "Yes. All by myself too" he said. He rubbed his arms where the soap had splattered. He had done it two times, splattering it everywhere and having to start over. He sighed and said, "It doesnt matter though. What's done is done."

Mel crunched on the last of her bar and neatly folded the wrapper back into place. "Right. Including splattering yourself with boiling soap." She leaned her head against the wall on the edge of the counter and yawned.
Blarg. Bad block.

Jamie punched her softly in the arm.She was always to smart and witty for him to handle. He jumped up and grabbed two more granols bars. He was still hungry. He didnt know when the last time he ate was. He ripped open one of them before he sat down and bit into it vigorously.

Mel smiled at him and lightly shoved him back. Once he hopped off the counter to get more granola bars--this kid was a bottomless pit--her eyes drifted closed. She couldn't remember the last time she had actually gotten a reasonable amount of sleep. Somehow in the day she always thought she would get more that night, but at night she ended up forgetting all about it. Mel's head leaned a little to the right. As uncomfortable as the rock was, she still could have even rifted off right here...
Mel jerked up as Jamie sat back on the counter. Right. Little brothers. Food. Problems. Drama. She yawned and lazily watched him begin eating. On the other hand, sleep....
