BACKGROUND: Not much is know about Jared before he found Melanie in the cabin. After that, however, there is more known. Like Jared brought Melanie and Jamie to a cabin by the Piacho Mountains. It was seculded and no one knew about it because it was a permitted building. It had one bedroom, a living room, bathroom and kitchen.

Jared and Melanie went on raids together to get supplies; such as food and water. Jared is Melanie’s true love and a fellow rogue human who has managed to evade being captured by the Souls. Not much is revealed about Jared’s life before the invasion, but prior to meeting Melanie, he only relied on himself not even speaking to another human being for two years. After meeting eachother on a house raid, he becomes instant partners with her and they and Jamie set off to protect themselves. When Melanie spots her cousin on the television she is adamant on finding her, but insists that Jared and Jamie do not come. Instead, she instructs Jared on finding her uncle Jeb and his base camp. Jared reluctantly does so and when “Melanie” shows up at the camp, he is devastated and furious. Although it is the body of the woman he loves, he shows absolutely no affection for her. When Jeb bestows upon Jared the decision of what to do with Melanie/Wanderer, he cannot shake his devotion to Melanie and decides to let Wanderer live, but under his watch.

When Melanie first meets Jared, he is wildly enthusiastic and grateful to meet another human. In Melanie’s memories, Jared is presented in a good light and this is partly why Wanderer’s feelings for Jared are so strong. However, bitterness soon overcomes Jared’s thoughts and actions when Melanie returns to him as a host. After time, Jared reluctantly begins to accept Wanderer and soon after he finds out that Melanie is still present, he becomes one of Wanderer’s main protectors.
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: Jared slammed the pick into a large lump of dirt. The heat was beating down on his body, covering him with sweat. His muscles had a dull ache of the pressure behind each swing, but the ache was welcomed. His eyes looked up the lane of dirt and saw they only had about three feet left. His mouth curled up to a smile and he started working with more force, hoping to finish faster. Lunch time was after this, then he could see Melanie. He was working with Jeb and Ian, while Melanie was helping Wanderer with the mirrors in the main plaza.

He finished breaking the clumps of dirt in his section and quickly returned to pick. He didn’t wait to see if Jeb was going to dismiss them; they were done after all. His footfalls slapped against the rock, making a dull echoing slapping noise. The smell of pastries caught his nose as he neared the kitchen. His pace slowed allowing him more time to take in the delicious smell of some type of pastry.
