GENERAL ANATOMY: Flames is small and lean. Her metabolism is still very high as she is still growing, so she tends to eat more unhealthy food than souls with older bodies. However, despite her small stature, Flames stands as if she is tall, and has been known to make other who are much larger cower.
GENERAL ATTIRE: Mostly black, with bits of warm colors thrown in and high shoes to make her taller. An example: orange shirt, black professional coat, black pants, and knee high black boots.
PERSONALITY: On the one hand, Flames is a soul, and so is naturally sweet most of the time. She likes pretty things, and fluffy animals, and the smell of roses. However, Flames also has many more things that set her off than other souls. She can’t stand losing, likes to be the one in control, and seriously hates all humans.
It was Flames’s uncommon control-freak nature, coupled with the fact that she is actually very good at what she does, that led her to higher control in the Seekers.
LIKES: Being right, chocolate, being in control, strawberries, doing her job well, chocolate covered strawberries, shoes with high heels that are still very comfortable, cake, flowers, chocolate cake with strawberries on top (her body has a serious sweet tooth)
DISLIKES: Having to repeat things, tomatoes, losing, humans, bananas, people who judge her on her size
STRENGTHS: Fast, nimble, and good at evaluating situations and reacting quickly, taking control of large numbers of people, and sounding scary
WEAKNESSES: Physically very weak, becomes somewhat irrational when people ignore her or don’t follow her orders, will never admit to mistakes (also, less of a flaw than an unfortunate circumstance, but she’s too short to drive most cars, so she’s almost always in the passenger seat)
DREAMS: Find the humans she knows are in the desert and, longer term, get rid of all humans
HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Caring for her two kittens, pressing flowers, practicing her aim, and hunting humans
BACKGROUND: Flames started on the fire planet. After living a full life term, she did not feel that she quite fit on the planet, although there were certainly aspects she liked. However, of the other open planets, none seemed even the slightest bit interesting to her. She lived two more life terms there, each practically indistinguishable from each other, before a new planet, Earth, opened for inhabitation.
Flames was skeptical at first. However, word traveled of the amazing senses on Earth, and, more important to Flames’ decision, the reluctant humans. This, Flames knew at once, was what she needed—a good chase.
She arrived on Earth after the initial invasion, but still when there were plenty of humans still around. For her first life on earth, in the body of a thirty year old red-haired man, Flames had her best life ever, hunting down humans and rising to more power. All too soon, the humans were running out. Flames missed the adrenaline of the chase—these bodies really did have such vibrant feelings—and so, hunting a pair of rogue humans, she got careless and took too many risks. The body she was in was shot twice. She was saved easily, but it was too late for her body.
In some sort of twisted irony, Flames was put into the body of one of the humans she had been chasing, a twenty-something, tall, blonde woman. However, the woman, Lisa, did not disappear from her mind. Flames left being a Seeker for a while to fix phones, Lisa’s profession before the invasion. After less than a year, Lisa become stronger and more violent, attacking another soul. Luckily enough, the other soul was Flames’ Seeker friend, and he was able to turn the table on her. Flames was transferred to the body of this young girl, but her failure to control her previous host remains her greatest shame. She does not speak of it, and only the other Seeker and the Healer who moved her know of it. In her third life on Earth, she is back to being a Seeker, and is determined to make up for her failure by catching the humans in the Arizona desert.
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: copied from Mel’s app:
Jessica Smith-Simon didn’t even blink at horror movies. She loved dark mysterious nights, had a slightly morbid interest in everything that most people wouldn’t go near, and liked to think she was fearless. High school, however, she wasn’t so sure about. Between girls who had no life and boys who had vocabularies of just over one hundred words, Jessica had never really liked the concept of a school—or, rather, asylum—where hormonal teenagers who didn’t want to be there and grumpy adults who really didn’t want to be there were locked up together. Yet, somehow, she had survived the experience for the better part of three years. This particular day couldn’t really that much worse, right?
Right?
Sadly, Jessica’s mind had a nasty habit of never glossing over the facts of life, even when she wished it would.
The thing was the night before she had been watching a really interesting show on people who claimed to see ghosts, didn’t realize the time, then had to stay up late (technically early) doing homework. Combined with her usual sleep deprivation, Jessica was feeling especially terrible. However, she would never just lay in bed unless she had broken both her legs, both her arms, and was on mind-numbing pain meds. A day spent doing nothing was a day wasted. Maybe she could browse the web on her laptop during first period. And second…And third…And maybe fifth. Not fourth, though, that teacher was strict.
She gripped her bag tightly and walked down the hallway greeting those she recognized. Opening her locker, Jessica reluctantly began what she knew was doomed to be a terrible day. Here she was, stuck in a madhouse of teen angst so she could “earn a brighter future”. One thing was for sure: any future would be brighter than these four years of tort—high school.
Right?
